D38 welcomes Brian Pohl as newest Ray E. Kilmer Elementary School Principal

Following a comprehensive search for the newest principal of Ray E. Kilmer Elementary School, the Kilmer Principal Selection Advisory Team reviewed and interviewed a host of qualified candidates. Ultimately, Brian Pohl was selected for the post.

Drew Francis, who announced his departure as Kilmer principal earlier in the spring semester, continues to work on the transition process with Pohl, who will begin meeting with staff next week.

In an email to the Kilmer community, Superintendent Dr. KC Somers said Pohl’s recent experience, including helping to open a brand new K-8 school within Widefield School district 3, prepared him to take the reins at Kilmer.

“Certain qualities stood out to our search committee, including his emphatic listening, communication skills, his desire to create a positive culture and his penchant for citing research, data and evidence in his work,” Somers said.

Pohl, who earned his Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Colorado State University, spoke at the May. 16 Board of Education meeting.

“I look forward to joining the team and hopefully finding ways that I can add a little bit of value to what you’re already doing,” Pohl said. “I really feel that I align well with Kilmer and what they’re already doing and hopefully that if our culture is in alignment, we can just continue to grow together as a community.”

He added that he looks forward to working with both the students and the staff as Kilmer prepares to continue its growth in the next school year. Pohl will join the district leadership team in July in preparation for the 2022-2023 School Year.
