Special education educators with their students

Educators across D38 make an impact on students every day, and with the help of the Colorado Springs Down Syndrome Association, one student and his family are making sure their teacher knows it.

Brandy Doan, a special education teacher at Palmer Ridge High School, earned a prestigious award from the CSDA following a nomination by her student Michael and the entire Glen family.

“Brandy ensures each of her student’s academic, social and emotional needs are met,” said Lisa Glen. “Mindful of academic regression due to the pandemic, Brandy worked with Michael and his classmates to review past material and move forward with new material. Because of her close personal attention to his needs, Michael continues to make significant academic progress.”

The Glen family, along with their son Michael, presented Brandy with the award, which includes a $500 scholarship, in May, leading to a celebration in her classroom.

Across the region, only eight teachers receive this award each year.
